West Yorkshire Sport is one of the 49 County Partnerships in England which connect providers of sport and physical activity such as National Governing Bodies, Local Authorities, Schools, Colleges and universities and local clubs to work together to increase the number and quality of opportunities to take part across a county area.
The West Yorkshire Sports Partnership was formed in 2001 as a result of the five local authorities coming together to deliver sports development programmes. The network structure now includes hundreds of organisations from across the county.
West Yorkshire Sport is the team of sports development professionals that provide the leadership and coordination for the Partnership. It became a Company Limited by Guarantee in November 2011.
Its purpose is to:
“To improve quality of life in West Yorkshire by: increasing the number of people being actively involved in sport, active recreation and physical activity; and supporting the fulfilment of potential”
