JOIN WAKEY WHEELED CATS! Meet and greet April 28 2012

Published on: 20th April 2012

WAKEFIELD'S only roller derby team, Wakey Wheeled Cats, is on the hunt for new players and referees to join the fast-growing sport.

The Cats are holding a Meet and Greet event, with the chance to see a full intraleague game, next Saturday, April 28 at Lightwaves Leisure Centre, Wakefield.

Afterwards, those who are curious can meet the team, ask questions, and have a go themselves.

Roller derby is a fast-paced, full contact sport played on a flat oval track.

The team's recruitment officer Zoe Melia said: “Roller derby is the fastest growing sport in the country so we’re opening up our doors for anyone to get involved. We’re looking for female skaters, aged over 18, and male or female referees.

“And you don’t need to be able to skate to get started. Most of us were complete novices when we joined, so we will teach you everything you need to know to be safe and effective on your skates.

“Roller derby is a great sport - and perfect for people of all fitness levels.”

Places are limited so e-mail Zoe at WWCrecruitment@hotmail.co.uk to secure a spot.
