Youth Sport Direct - Boccia & Goalball equipment
Published on: 17th July 2012
Youth sports charity, Youth Sport Direct has launched two new sports innovations timed to coincide with and reflect the spirit of the 2012 Paralympic Games in London later this year.
Boccia Balls - RRP: £99.95 (exc VAT)
Boccia Balls have been developed in association with Boccia England to be an affordable introduction to the game at grass-roots level. Boccia (pronounced Bot cha) itself dates back to ancient Greece when players threw large stones at a target. The modern game was originally developed for people with severe cerebral palsy but is easily accessible for players with a range of physical disabilities (it is now a Paralympic sport), as well as able bodied competitors of all ages.
The introductory set comprises six red, six blue balls with one white target ball, each hand-sewn in synthetic leather filled with plastic granulate, making them easy to handle while replicating the feel of the game at the top level.
Goalball - RRP: £14.95 (exc VAT)
Youth Sport Direct has also launched its own Goalball, to encourage newcomers and youngsters to the sport played by blind and partially sighted athletes. The game, originally developed after the World War II for veterans blinded during the conflict, consists of two teams of three who throw a ball that has bells embedded in it into their opponents goal.
The Youth Sport Direct version is endorsed by Goalball UK and is ideal for those wishing to take up the sport for the first time or as a fun product for any visually impaired youngsters to use in just about any ball game.
