Triathlon: Try a Tri
Published on: 21st October 2011
Todmorden Triathlon and Try a Tri, Centre Vale Park, Todmorden, West Yorkshire, hosted the third Todmorden Triathlon on 3 July 2011.
The Calderdale Tri club are hosting the thrid Todmorden Triathlon, in conjunction with Calderdale Council and Blazing Saddles cycle shop. The event includes something for everyone, with a sprint triathlon, a range of children's triathlons over different distances and a Try a Tri designed to give newcomers a taste of triathlon. All events start with a swim in the indoor pool at the Todmorden Sports Centre. The sprint triathlon starts with a 400m swim ( 6 lengths), then it's straight onto bikes for the cycle leg covering 20km (12 miles) heading West to Cliviger and back. A two lap 5km (3mile) run around the picturesque park completes the event.
Triathlon
A triathlon is a multi-sport endurance event consisting of swimming, cycling, and running in immediate succession over various distances. Triathletes compete for fastest overall course completion time, including timed “transitions” between the individual swim, bike, and run components.
Transition areas are positioned both between the swim and bike segments (T1), and the bike and run segments (T2), and are often just one checkpoint, especially in shorter courses. These areas are used to store bicycles, performance apparel, and any other accessories essential for preparing and gearing up for the next stage of the race. In addition, these areas provide a social headquarters prior to the race, and are an integral part of triathlete culture.
Aquathlon
The sport of Aquathlon consists of a continuous, two-stage race involving swimming followed by running.
Aquathlon events are sometimes seen as the easiest of the three sports as the longest section of the Triathlon the cycle is not included.
Try Tri will be hosting a mid week series of Aquathlon events which will run on a Monday and Wednesday evening in Southampton and Winchester which can be used as practise events for Triathlons.
Try Tri’s swim sessions are run Wessex Swim School who have 45 fully qualified swimming teachers on hand to be able to offer the best swimming training possible to ensure you reap the benefits on race day!
Duathlon
Duathlon is an athletic event that consists of a running leg, followed by a cycling leg and then another running leg in a format bearing some resemblance to triathlons.
Duathlons are a popular Winter Multi Sport Event as the wet and cold swimming stage is not included.
Try Tri Events will be hosting a mini series of Duathlons in Jan, Feb, Mar and Apr in 2010 as a warm up and practice for our Triathlon series which will take place from April to September next year.
