Indoor Kurling at Cleckheaton Library

Published on: 24th November 2011

Cleckheaton Library are holding free indoor Kurling taster sessions for the over 50s, providing the opportunity for people to try out something new.  There are three sessions all taking place on Fridays from 10am to 12noon: November 25, December 2 and December 9.

New Age Kurling is a form of the original curling game, but adapted so that it can be played indoors on any smooth flat surface, such as a sports hall, rather than on ice.

The game can be played by both able-bodied and disabled people of all ages and providing there is enough interest they hope to continue to run regular indoor kurling sessions from January 2012.

These indoor kurling sessions are part of 50+ in Spen, a group set up with the aim of starting a network of activities and events run by local men and women over 50. The group is open to anyone age 50+ and members comes together at these taster sessions to share their skills and to encourage social interaction.

All necessary equipment is provided and refreshments are available.  There is ramp access and a disabled lift at the library as well as public toilets including baby changing facilities and disabled toilets.

Partners involved in the project include Altogether Better Kirklees, Fit as a Fiddle/Age Concern Calderdale and Kirklees and Cleckheaton Library.
