Arriba! Mexico meets Huddersfield in a roller derby clash of nations!
Published on: 14th September 2011
Wakey Wheeled Cats welcome Scotland’s own Fair City Rollers, Fear Maidens, in their second home bout – Knack Yo’ Libre.
Both leagues started up at around the same time, with this being their first clash on the track, which promises to be an exciting game to watch.
Wakey will be fighting for a much-needed win, after losing against Scottish Team Auld Reekie Rollergirls, Cannon Belles, earlier in the year.
The event has a wrestling theme, welcoming live local wrestlers for half-time entertainment, with a family orientated event including a Pinata for the kids and ‘Best Dressed Wrestler’ competition.
Cats captain and co-founder Kirsty Quinn said: “Roller Derby is the fastest-growing female sport in the UK, with Yorkshire just welcoming its eight league into the County.
“We’re proud to have finally reached the point where we can showcase our team publicly, and would love the local community to come see what it’s all about.
“This should be an exciting match for someone to watch for the first time and is a great family event. Both teams started at the same time and Wakey are hungry for another win. Not one to be missed.”
Roller derby is a family-friendly sport and fans of all ages are welcome.
Knack Yo’ Libre - Wakey Wheeled Cats v Fair City Rollers takes place at Huddersfield Sports Centre on Saturday, September 24th.
Doors open at 4.30pm. Under 10s are free.
Tickets, at £5, are available from www.wakeywheeledcats.moonfruit.co.uk
