As Wales prepare for their first World Cup semi-final since 1987, a Leeds Metropolitan sports psychologist offers his insights into their continued success in New Zealand.
Proud Welshman Dr Andrew Manly explains how Wales’ strong worth ethic has led to their recent performances. He can explain the body of research evidence to suggest that a “growth mindset” (i.e., a belief in hard work and effort paying dividends) is associated with greater persistence and subsequent achievement when compared with a “fixed mindset” (i.e., a belief that no amount of effort is likely to affect a specific outcome).
