All teed Up Sportivate disability golf sessions

With a year to go before the London 2012 Paralympic Games, more opportunities for disabled people to enjoy sport are being created across West Yorkshire through the Sportivate programme.
2011 Special Olympics Gold Medallist Golfer, Ben Horner, made a guest appearance at Ghyll Beck Driving Range, Esholt to encourage participants from the Snoop Group from the Hollybrook Centre, Greengates on August 19.
The golf sessions, run by All Teed Up Club, head Coach Andy Watmuff are aimed at those who are looking to try different sports and build basic skills.
“Its fantastic for Ben to take the time to come down to see these new participants to golf. I'm sure that what Ben has achieved and the obstacles he has overcome are an inspiration to everyone, not just to this group of disabled performers” Golf Coach, Andy Watmuff.
A number of local projects have been delivered in the districts since the launch of Sportivate in June to introduce new activities and increase participation in sports including goalball, wheelchair rugby league, adapted cycling and karate.
West Yorkshire Sport and partners will continue to provide and raise awareness of new opportunities for young people and adults with a disability to take part in sport in clubs and the community.
Sportivate is a key part of the Sport England Legacy Plan ‘Places People Play’, designed to help aged 16-25 enjoy regular sport and includes activities that are fully accessible to people with a disability.
