Castleford Girls fit for purpose

Published on: 28th November 2011

On Saturday 19 November a team of 8 members of Castleford U18 RUFC Girls joined in the Crossfit Challenge to help a team from their sponsors, Blacks Solicitors, raise money for their designated charity, The Northumberland Air Ambulance.

The girls wanted to show their appreciation for the sponsorship of kit by accepting the request to lend their help in completing the keep fit challenge of 1000 press ups, 1000 sit ups, 1000 squats, 1000 burpees and 1000 kettle bell swings. It was a gruelling event but they rose magnificently to the challenge and they completed their allotted share of the total target. The whole amount raised by Blacks through the event was over £2000. The girls were a credit to themselves and the club and the help with this was much appreciated.

The next day they were in action again either playing for Yorkshire U18s and U15s or helping out as volunteers when Castleford RUFC hosted the RFUW North of England County Rugby Festival. With around 200 girls from the combined sides of Cheshire/Cumbria/Durham, Lancashire, Northumberland and Yorkshire playing in the Festival and the supporters the girls we were able to play their part in a fantastic day for the club.

The whole weekend was a great advertisement for girls’ rugby. Lancashire may have won both the U15 and U18 tournaments in the Festival but the main winner was the spirit of rugby in a club that puts participation as the first priority.

The photos attached show some of the Castleford RUFC Girls in their sponsored kit at the Crossfit Challenge and the packed clubhouse at the presentations of the Festival trophies.

There is a separate link to a web photo album that chronicles the day and shows how a community rugby club sets about organising such an event as the Festival https://picasaweb.google.com/jacqui.OGara/NorthOfEnglandGirlsRugby?authkey=Gv1sRgCPD3kb3cnrGcxwE&feat=email
