DRAGONS WIN 78 – 69 AT BRIXTON TOPCATS

Published on: 14th February 2012

Bradford Dragons bounced back from the home defeat against Leeds Carnegie last week to win 78 – 69 on the road in their EBL division 1 game. The Dragons defence were in control for most of  the game as Dragons kept a tight rein on Brixton to lead 23 - 21 at the first break. Dragons ground out an additional four point lead in the second stanza to lead 41 – 35 at the midway point.  Dragons kept it tight in the third period as they stretched the lead to a 61 – 51 lead at the final break. With Vance Silcott in fine form on his way to a game high 18 points, Brixton edged the final quarter as Dragons closed out the win on the night

After the game Coach Chris Mellor said, ‘I was happy overall with what we did over four quarters. We attacked their defence in the way I wanted with intelligence and patience and made the extra pass when necessary. Defensively our goal was to restrict them to 65 points but even though we fell short we did most things efficiently apart from a few breakdowns on rotations and box outs but our effort was very good. They kept chipping away at our lead but never really threatened us enough to make it uncomfortable’.

For Dragons, Vance Silcott led with 18 points, Rihard Sulcs and Michal Ciesla both scored 12 points.

Elsewhere for Dragons, Dragons 2 men lost 49 - 63 away at high flying Middlesborough Lions in their EBL division 4 game, Dragons 3 men lost 62 – 82 away to Easingwold in the their Leeds League division 1 game and Dragons women’s team remained perfect on the season with a 100 – 37 home win against neighbours Huddersfield Heat in their National Founders Cup pool game to give them their 15th consecutive win of the season.
