Huddersfield Giants in the Community are celebrating year one of their Ambassadors Scheme which has seen them generate over £2500 cash-back for the areas local community clubs.

The Community Club Ambassadors Scheme partnership between the local Rugby League clubs and the Giants in the Community team was designed to strengthen links between the parties, and one of the introduced ticketing initiatives has led to the substantial figure raised for the community game.

There are eight local Huddersfield based Rugby League clubs that are a part of the scheme and the Ambassador of each club has proved to be invaluable. The enthusiasm and organisation they have brought has allowed events to run seamlessly when co-ordinating curtain raisers, community club days, health workshops, holiday rugby camps and winter tag festivals.

A notable achievement brought through the initiative is the Community Club Match Days which was launched in February. The Community Club Match Days allow each local community club a Huddersfield Giants home fixture to be dedicated to them providing an opportunity to promote their club whilst engaging the junior players with match day activities.

The Huddersfield Giants Managing Director Richard Thewlis commented on the initiative;

“The initial uptake of this scheme was very encouraging and for us jointly to be able to put over £2500 into the local rugby league community is excellent. I say jointly because schemes such as these need to work as a partnership and it is good to be see these being strengthened with key community clubs.

Richard Thewlis was also keen to express his thoughts regarding the continuation of the scheme through 2012;

“It is an on-going process and one I am sure will grow over time. I am sure that for an community club to raise such funds is hugely beneficial to them along with their families, friends and colleagues to visit the Galpharm Stadium and watch us in Super League action is great for club too.
