Halifax Canoe Club was awarded Canoe England’s prestigious 2011 Club of the Year Award at their annual awards evening in Nottingham on Saturday 19th November.
The club was made the shortlist from the more than 300 canoe clubs active in England and beat off stiff competition to win the award.
Pete Face, Chair of the Club said “Naturally everyone at the club is very proud and delighted to win this award. This rewards the hard work of all our volunteers who give up their time to run the club and make what it is.”
The award is in recognition for the following areas:
- The range of high quality activities provided by the club to all its members at all levels of paddlesport
- The commitment to the development of participants as well as coaches and volunteers
- The innovative approach to the promotion of the club and sport
- The excellent volunteer management programme that the club works under
The award also recognises the additional work that the club undertakes with local and regional agencies and organisations with regards to the environment and community. As well as the Award, the club received a cheque for £500 which will be used to further support and develop the Club’s dedicated volunteers.
It has been a busy year for Halifax Canoe Club with notable highs including being featured on BBC Countryfile in February, picking up the Calderdale Volunteer Club of the Year in June and hosting three national canoe slalom events.
