Heat continue poor away form
Published on: 30th November 2011
Huddersfield put in another poor away performance losing in overtime 98-102 to the bottom placed and winless Stockport Falcons at the Lapwing Centre on Sunday evening. With this defeat, the Heat move to a 4 and 5 in EBL Division 3 North, a serious setback considering the other results in the division over the weekend.
Swaine (49), Huggett (7), Irving (16), Bigley (18), Woodward (3) – Andrew (0), Kozlowski (0), Perez (0), Gray (5), Quinn (0), Treen (0)
STOCKPORT FALCONS 102 (22+18+33+13+16)
Morris (7), McKie (2), Sallabank (41), Cole (18), Sharland-Wong (11) – Cuthbert (0) Jackson (3), Osbourne (20).
In the first quarter, both teams were evenly matched, with the Heat struggling to get continuity on the defensive end of the floor, which allowed the normally low scoring Falcons to get going. Whilst the Heat would score 18 points, the most concerning aspect was the Falcons ease in getting to 22, for the quarter lead, and was a sign of things to come. The second quarter continued with the same dynamic, with neither team able to take full control of the encounter. The first half would with a small lead to the home team 40-37 in favour of the Falcons.
After the restart, the Heat would suffer a defensive meltdown, as Stockport went on a 11-0 run to break the scores, with Sallabank impressing with his range of scoring. For the Heat, only Jason Swaine, on his way to a game high 49 points, would keep the visitors in touch. A 33-24 partial would give the Falcons their biggest lead of the game 73-61.
In the final quarter, when the game seemed to be drifting away from the Heat, Swaine would again rescue the Yorkshire men, with 8 points in the last minute including a game tying three with 5 seconds to go which would send the game into overtime. However, in the extra period, the visitor’s defensive frailties away from home were once again exposed, and Stockport would take the added time 16-12.
The Heat now face another away trip to Derby on Sunday in a bid to reverse their poor away form.
