HUDDERSFIELD FEMALE RUGBY LEAGUE MAKING HISTORY
Published on: 22nd November 2011
Two local Huddersfield Rugby League Clubs involved in pioneering girls rugby league festival last weekend.
Huddersfield St Josephs Sharks were present in the U12s Girls Rugby Festival last weekend and Meltham All Blacks were the sole Huddersfield representative in the first ever U18 Girls Rugby League Festival. Hosted by St Josephs Sharks at the historic Fartown Rugby League ground, over 40 girls representing 8 different community rugby league clubs took to the pitch to showcase their skills in fantastic sunshine.
The U18s initiative is a new concept developed by the RFL to help encourage female players stay in the game post 16 years old. The initiative provides an additional choice to participate other than solely continuing in the women’s open age structure. With thanks to the participating teams: St Josephs, Meltham All Blacks, Outwood, Castleford Panthers, Stanningley, Ovenden, Hunslet and St Helens. The next girls rugby league festival will be taking place at Brighouse Rangers on Saturday 19th November 2011.
The Huddersfield Ladies Rugby League team is in action this Sunday against Batley Ladies in the Challenge Cup Plate Semi Final. If successful the final will be played on Easter Sunday 2012. Good luck to the ladies this weekend.
