Former NE England Squash & Racketball Development Coach David Hymas has been awarded the ESR Participation Coach of the year award, at the annual ESR Coaching Conference held at Lilleshall National Sports centre.  This is recognition for the tremendous work done to increase participation in squash and racketball at Schools, Colleges, Universities, Clubs and Leisure centres during the last year.

He worked tirelessly to attract pupils from St Bede’s Catholic High school to try squash at Heaton Tennis & Squash club in Bradford.  Some of the older pupils then choose Squash for GCSE PE, then went on to inspire younger children as Community Sports Leaders.  He formed partnerships between other schools, colleges and squash facilities at local Clubs and Leisure centres.  He even assisted them in applying for funds from School sport partnerships and Sportivate to ensure that sustainable programmes were set up.

He has worked closely with Clubs and Local Authorities to set up initiatives to promote the UK’s  fastest growing racket sport – Racketball.  By tutoring courses to train Leisure centre operatives so they can promote racketball, he has he has impacted on the growth and spread of this game within West Yorkshire.

Within the squash community he has in conjunction with David Duncalf, developed the talent pool of under 11 players by delivering coaching and competition for these players under the umbrella of the All Stars series.  This series has since produced many players selected for National squads.

David is now working as the Head Squash Professional at Queens Sports Club, Halifax where he continues to build the membership and deliver further ESR initiatives to boost participation.  He continues to work for England Squash & Racketball as a Commission coach and as Assistant Coach for the Regional programme.
