Kirklees schools sign up for Olympic education programme

Schools and colleges across Kirklees are being urged to sign up the flagship Olympic education programme “The Get Set Network” in order to fully benefit from the London 2012 Olympics.
So far 133 Kirklees schools have signed up “Get Set” the introductory education programme and 29 of these have gone on to achieve “Get Set Network” status.
To achieve “Get Set Network” schools need to demonstrate that they have a commitment to the Olympic Values (friendship, excellence and respect) and the Paralympic Values (inspiration, determination, courage and equality) and are using the London 2012 Games to inspire learners of all ages to get involved in Values-based projects and activities.
As well as creating opportunities for children and young people to get involved in the excitement of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, members of the “Get Set Network” gain access to exclusive rewards and opportunities. Members of the network can use the London 2012 Education logo on their school or college sign, headed paper, website, newsletter and they also get a plaque and a certificate. Additionally, by joining the Get Set Network, schools and colleges also prequalify for an allocation of London 2012 Ticketshare tickets to the London 2012 Games, although this offer is not expected to remain open for much longer.
Schools in the Salendine Nook pyramid have all now been accepted as part of the Get Set Network. This cluster of schools which consists of Salendine Nook High School, Lindley Junior School, Lindley Infant School, Moorlands Primary School, Reinwood Junior School and Reinwood Infant School along with Huddersfield New College have been supported through the process by Jane Lees, who works across these schools and colleges in her dual role as FESCO (Further Education Sport Co-ordinator) at Huddersfield New College, and Enrichment Activity Facilitator for the Salendine Nook Pyramid.
Councillor Jean Calvert, Kirklees Council Cabinet Member, said, “It is great that so many of the schools and colleges have signed up already to be involved in the Olympic education programme. There are many benefits to joining the network and as we begin the countdown to London 2012 it is important that the schools in Kirklees make the most of the opportunities to inspire their pupils over the next twelve months.”
