Local Authority Touch Rugby competition at Red Hall

Teams from the local authorities of West Yorkshire attended the RFL tournament and special guest teams from the Rugby Football League and West Yorkshire Sport were invited.
Played at the RFL headquarters, Redhall and officiated by the Yorkshire match official’s development officer who said that all games were played in the correct spirit and all had fun in competitive games.
Leeds Sport Development came out eventual winners, however all games were closely contested by over 50 male and female players. The event is a pilot and future festivals are planned. The trophy will be put on display and contested again in 2012.
Leeds City Council Sport Development captain on the night, Sarah Reed said “The evening went very well, the guys and girls really enjoyed it. A number of us play in thepopular Touch tournament at John Charles Centre for Sport on a Monday evening but we fancied our chances in a tournament and luckily our efforts paid off and we managed to win all our games.
It was well organised, the teams we played were all varying ability but all were closegames and very enjoyable. Going forward I can see some of us continuing with the Touch league at JCCS which is due to start the indoor winter league shortly, getting more Leeds City Council employees on board now that they can see how much fun the game is.
We look forward to another tournament and hopefully more local authorities willbe involved next time.”
