Racketball fun for first timers – Leeds U3A
Published on: 20th January 2012
Members of the University of the 3rd Age Leeds group enjoyed an hour long session of racketball at Chapel Allerton Tennis, Squash & Gym club; under the direction of Head Racketball Coach Peter Edwards. The club provides all the equipment – non marking shoes, racket & ball for participants.
Some members had attended the free taster sessions held before Christmas, others were on court for the first time. Alex, a recently retired Service engineer said ‘I was looking for something active, to get me out of the house’. Others were beginning to have rallies thanks to some patient feeding by volunteer David Keogh. Some encountered a ‘Billy Elliot experience’; when they really felt so focused on the ball, they forgot about everything else in their lives, and were on a real high, when they hit a good shot!
The group is meeting again next Friday 20 January 11-12 noon and all U3A members in the Leeds branch are welcome to attend (cost £4/sesssion).
