State of Mind Kick Starts In Bradford

Published on: 26th August 2011

Bradford District Care Trust and Bradford Bulls Foundation have teamed up to back a national programme aimed at raising awareness of mental health issues.

As part of ‘State of Mind’, health professionals from the Trust will be at the next home game, Bradford Bulls vs Crusaders, (Sunday 4 September) offering advice and information about mental health and improved well-being to fans.

Nick Davy, Nurse at Bradford District Care Trust is one of the team offering his support. He said: “We will be on hand to talk to fans about their state of mind, any issues affecting them in life and what services they can access for support. This is a perfect opportunity for people to ‘score a winning try’ and get the advice and support they need.”

‘State of Mind’ arose following the sad death of former Wigan Warriors player Terry Newton in September 2010. The programme aims to link local rugby league clubs, both professional and amateur, in pursuing community well-being, mental health improvement and raising awareness of mental health issues.

Andy Lynch, Bradford Bulls Team Captain, said: “We are really keen to support this important programme. There’s no shame is seeking help and support. NHS experts will be on hand at the game and I’d encourage you to talk to them.”

The game will kick start different health-related activities and events to raise awareness of mental health and well-being within the community throughout the year.

As part of the Trust’s bid to become a foundation trust, staff will also be encouraging local fans to sign up as members. Membership is free and anyone who signs up on the day will be entered into a prize draw to win a signed Bradford Bulls rugby shirt or ball.

Tickets for the game are available by calling the ticket office on 08448 711 490 or visiting www.bradfordbulls.co.uk
