The fabulous Malham Suite at the Rendezvous Hotel in Skipton was once again packed and alive with UAJCA players and supporters for the UAJCA Presentation Night. Officials were delighted to welcome Moin Ashraf from Yorkshire CCC as their guest of honour who helped present the 50 prizes up for grabs. Moin announced his selection for the England Development Squad to go to India in January.
The UAJCA executive led thanks to all UAJCA sponsors, of course without whom the cricket and the evening would not have been possible. The President and executive officials led gracious thanks for Sponsors Cricketcoachingmats.com, CartaSport Leisure, Brook Taverner, Pro Coach Cricket Academy and The Keighley Cup Committee for continued invaluable financial support. In addition JMS Sport UK has generously supported our Representative Teams and this year the Rendezvous Hotel has given its backing to the Presentation Night. David Cooper, our under-9s sponsor once again joined us to give out awards for the burgeoning under-9s section, this year with full league status.
2011 has been the busiest yet for UAJCA with its transformation to Association and adoption of the Area's Representative Teams. Sponsor Jonathan Smith of JMS Sport UK came along but kept a low profile after a hard evenings coaching at his Cricket Centre in Keighley. The Annual review featured all the representative teams, which collectively won five matches in our inaugural season. There was also mention for the 'Summer Picnic', The Malsis Festival and four excellent UAJCA Cup Finals. All the UAJCA Championship winning teams for 2011 were there to collect their Trophies and mementoes: Skipton u9, Wharfedale u11, Bradley u11, Oxenhope u13, Ingrow u13, Wharfedale u15, Bradford & Bingley u15, Skipton u17 and Denholme u17.
Awards for individual batting, bowling, wicket-keeping and fielding winners preceded each age-group Cricketer of the Year announcements; as did awards for the Representative Team best batsman and bowler and a team manager's Merit award.
2011 is the 8th year of The UAJCA Cricketer of the Year awards to our top young players. At u-17 Andrew Wear (Denholme) takes pride of place yet again with a first ever two u-17 Cricketer-of-the-Year Awards in successive seasons. It was no surprise since he also won both Batting and Bowling awards. At under-15 James Lee (Oakworth) set a new league run-scoring record of 339 runs whilst at under-13 Lewis Hopkinson (Oxenhope) built on his marvellous Century (110) for the UJCA Lords' Taverner Xl against Leeds. Under-11 James Robinson also represented u-11 Taverners and proved a worthy winner. Girl Cricketer of the Year Ceri Holland (Steeton) moved up from second place in 2010 and competed well with the boys such that she was selected and played for the under-13 Lords' Taverner Xl.
