What is the Community Games

In 2012 Community Games provided a wonderful and unique opportunity for communities from all backgrounds right across the country to come together to celebrate the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games and create their own Olympic or Paralympic moment. Because of the great work and fantastic experiences the Community Games programme continues into 2013.

Community Games offer something for everyone. You don’t need to be sporty to take part – they are about enjoying taking part in something cultural or sport, whatever your choice! Community Games aims to celebrate and enjoy the spirit of community and the fantastic work that goes all across the country. The aim of the programme is to bring communities together, supporting them to organise a Community Games for their community, which might be their street, estate, local interest group – essentially the Games will be run by communities for communities.

In 2012 there were over 30 Community Games events in West Yorkshire engaging and providing an enjoyable day for thousands of our local people and communities.

West Yorkshire Sport is supporting the Community Games as it is an great programme driven and organised locally for communities. It gives communities a chance to work together and celebrate local communities and the West Yorkshire spirit across the five district areas.

Are you interested in organising an event for your community? Then why not consider organising Community Games!
