Snowsport & Disability Snowsport UK
The Governing Body for English skiers and snowboarders is recognised by Sport England, the SRA (Sport and Recreational Alliance) and the British Olympic Association. It is a Federation of member clubs and associated individuals with a current aggregate membership of 25,000 skiers.
Recognised and directly grant aided by Sport England, Snowsport England was given responsibility for fostering and promoting the interests of English skiers and all aspects of their sport in England and overseas, through its members and interested agencies in the public and private sectors.
With well over a million skiers and snowboarders visiting ski slopes and mountain country to take part in Alpine, Snowboarding, Cross-Country, Touring, Ski Touring, Racing and Freestyle, Snowsport England has the job of servicing these interests. It prepares representative teams and also handles training of coaches, performers and officials.

Sport has always been important to me initially as a participant, then as a coach, spectator and volunteer. I have played many sports at all levels from grassroots to national and have coaching qualifications in several. Almost ten years ago after a family ski holiday we joined a ski club on our return. This resulted in our sons taking part in the ski racing side of the sport. Through the excellent training, friendship and support they received from the clubs Paul has been a ski instructor for the Red Devils Ski School in Kitzbuhel, Austria for the last 5 years and takes part in the racing programme over there and Tom is race captain for Salford University Snowsports Team. My role with Snowsport England involves Co-ordinating work programmes for the Sports Development Team and collating reports for Sport England regarding the delivery of the Whole Sport Plan. Disability Snowsport UK
At the heart of our plans is our desire to increase opportunities, fitness, mobility, freedom, social interaction, independence and skill of people with disabilities, and to identify and nurture the abilities of young potential athletes. A disabled person chooses both freedom and independence when they snap into bindings or transfer from a wheelchair to sit ski. They also make a choice to actively access adventure, a choice that is made possible by the work of Disability Snowsport UK, in spite of chronic health problems and physical and/or learning disabilities.
Snowsports provide disabled people with a method to conquer the barriers that confront them in daily life.
We seek to help individuals or groups to improve their quality of life and transfer the benefits gained from taking part in Snowsport into their everyday life. Each week we witness how our work helps physical and cognitive development, as well as improving social and emotional skills.
